Identity theft is a big business. While hackers are online 24/7 to wreak havoc on people’s lives, there is another sting that is in operation that is goes much deeper in ruining your reputation. It actually changes who you are. It is imperative that you understand the truth of your existence. The sting that is in operation has been going on since the beginning of time. Every person searches for who they are and why they are here, and there is a force that wants to make sure you don’t ever find out who you are.
While having to live in a sinful world separated by God, one has to seek to find what life is about. There are two choices, one is living the world’s ways which are against the ways of God, and the other is to follow God and live according to His ways. One is your automatic default, you will follow the world. Sin is the culprit. Sin turned God’s creation upside down and thwarted the plan God had for His children.
Despite the first identity theft to ever take place, read Genesis 3, God has never stopped pursuing man. You see this clearly in Isaiah 49. The first 7 verses reveal every person’s true identity. You matter to God. He needs you. He has made heaven to be a beautiful place for you to go home to one day, but you must choose Him over the world. He gives every person free will to decide which choice they will choose. That choice determines where you and I will go after we die.
God wants you (and I) to choose wisely. He wants you to come to know who you are in Christ. Think about what God is saying to you from these verses in Isaiah 49. Too many people are being deceived and choosing poorly. So many are walking around confused in their identity and it is costing them dearly as well as our families, neighborhoods, cities, and nations.

My friend, know the truth of who you are. Let God tell you Himself:
- The Lord called you before you were born. While you were in your mother’s womb, God called you by name! What is your name? God gave your mother that name before she met you. You matter to God and He has a purpose for you.
- Your words that you speak have meaning. God has given you an important message to share with others.
- You are hidden in the shadow of His hand. This is where you are protected.
- You are like a sharp arrow in God’s quiver. He gives you purpose and what you do makes a difference in this world.
- God helps you to learn to serve Him. Your life is to bring God glory.
- God forms you in your mother’s womb. There in the darkness, God creates you to be His servant. He commissions you to help His cause of bringing lost sheep back to the fold.
- God honors you. Repeat that until you believe it.
- God gives you strength to live out your God-given identity. You are never on your own.
- God will make you a light that changes the whole world. Others will come to Christ because of you.
- The Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of your soul, has chosen you. You bring joy to God.
Write these 10 truths down about who you are. Don’t let nobody, and I mean nobody, take away your identity! Read them throughout your day. Look up and see how God is with you. Ask God to show you what He wants you to do today. He will guide you.
Beware of two unrelenting enemies that will steal your identity if you let it. The first one is Satan. Here are a few Scriptures to look up to understand our greatest adversary, 1 Peter 5:8, John 8:44, Revelation 12:9, 2 Corinthians 4:4, and 1 John 5:19. The other enemy is yourself. You love you. You sin daily. Your autopilot mode is to serve yourself, not God. You need to repent and ask God to help you become like Christ. You need to learn to listen and obey the Holy Spirit’s voice as you study and know the Bible. As you do these things daily, God transforms you into who He created you to be right from the very beginning in your mother’s womb.
When you live out your God-given purpose, you bring great joy to God and the body of Christ! God needs you. Other believers need you. The world needs you. Become God-confident in your identity and see what He will do through you!
