In Hot Pursuit

Right this very minute, God is in hot pursuit, for His love is running after you. Stop and ponder this reality. God is pursuing you. He has been since He knit you in your mother’s womb; read Psalm 139:13-16. Continue to read in Psalm 139, “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”17

There is never a time where God is not with you; see verse 18.

Stop and allow God to walk with you in all your moments.

Understanding this hot pursuit, God is hoping that you will deepen your faith in His Son and take the time to learn to hear the Spirit’s voice by studying His Word. God has given you an eternal purpose that needs to be lived out on this side of heaven.

Your eternal purpose is to get to know God and enjoy His presence.

After Christ’s resurrection, there is much activity in heaven. God is getting His eternal Kingdom ready for the big wedding feast where the groom, Jesus Christ, is going to unite Himself with His bride, His Church. That is you and me. In Matthew 22:1-14, read about the wedding feast. Notice the pursuit of God in gathering those who desire to be with Him for eternity. They have to choose on this side of heaven first. It’s like saying yes to the invite that He is offering every human being.

“The feast has been prepared…everything is ready. Come to the banquet!”4

Look at verse 5 in Matthew 22. Don’t be like these people who ignored the invite. They “went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business.” Their earthly life was their focus, not God. They were uninterested in what God offered them. They chose the pleasantries of this world more.

Time is coming to a close where the invitation will no longer be valid. Today, while you have time, say yes to Christ and prepare yourself for the wedding feast. You never know when God will come for you. In the past week, there were three funerals at my church. Two people were married, the wife dying a week before her spouse. They were older. The third was only 58. A heart attack took him off this earth.

No one is promised a long life. My son’s mother-in-law left this earth at age 51, five months before his wedding. She never got to see her daughter get married. I have lost three brothers in the last 11 years. One was 57, the other two in their mid 70’s. My sister-in-law lost her battle to cancer at age 56. My nephew and his wife enjoyed their firstborn son for just a couple months before he became an angel.

No one knows what their future holds, only the Lord knows. You are safe to trust Him and let Him guide you. He knows the way home. “For God says, ‘At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.’ Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2)

Respond to the hot pursuit of God. By His blood you are deemed fit for heaven. May you stop and allow Him to catch you, and allow Jesus to change you into His likeness. He makes all things beautiful in His time; read Ecclesiastes 3:11.
