As you get older, life seems to zip on by faster and faster without a thought or care in regards to the quality of your moments. Time doesn’t really care about what you do with the moments given to you. So, how do you slow down and embrace what is really important?
John Mark Comer says it right, “The solution to an over busy life is not more time. It’s to slow down and simplify our lives around what really matters.”
So, what really matters to you? A career, a family, a cabin in the woods, keeping a pristine home, a filled social calendar, a healthy retirement account, etc. The list is endless in how you can pass your time away. While the things in this life can be meaningful in themselves, they can become time wasters. They can drain you of energy, leave you mentally strained, and actually suck the life right out of you if not kept in check with what really matters.

There is a solution to this life-draining way of life. This solution was produced in heaven, and you and I would be wise to listen to the Creator who came up with such a simple idea. God’s idea can be seen most readily with the birth of new life. An infant, whether a human or an animal, is totally dependent upon its mother for survival.
Dependence. A word that changes a busy life into a meaningful life.
You and I are made to be dependent on God, for everything! When you choose to follow God’s Son and live in accordance to His Word, life won’t pass you by in a blur anymore. Life becomes orderly, purposeful, productive, and peaceful. You will be able to breathe between life’s moments. You will be able to enjoy that morning cup of coffee. (Maybe not if there are tiny fingers and toes clamoring at you for their needs to be met. In that case, take a deep breath for you are in the most precious of seasons and it will pass.) You will take a minute and notice that beautiful sunrise or sunset. When you are thirsty, you will stop and drink in the words of God that will quench what your soul is needing.
Dependence. A word that unites your soul with Jesus and you become complete.
You become complete in every aspect of your life when you are willing to slow down and prioritize what really matters. Again, God keeps it simple, follow Jesus and obey what He tells you. Agree with the Bible and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you moment-by-moment each day. It is the most craziest thing ever, but when you live life in this manner, your time becomes more efficient. It is like God expands your 24 hours. You will get stuff done AND have time to enjoy your coffee.
As it says in 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.” Life is about dependence on God. Embrace Him and see what He will do for you.
