The world is in chaos like never before. Read Matthew 24 and parallel how the world is currently versus when Jesus was telling His disciples what the future holds for mankind. It’s easy to become fearful with such a divided presidential election, increased storms like Helene that just hit the Southeast, morality is in a tailspin, and looming wars that appear to have no resolve.
Whatever causes you to tremble, have no fear, God is here!
People in biblical times faced severe hardships. Those that believed God had to ask a prophet for prayer and to receive wisdom from God. Today, because of Jesus’ resurrection, God gives every person who repents of their sins and turns to God the Holy Spirit. The Living God resides within every broken heart that now walks by faith in Christ. God is with you in every one of your moments.
The best thing you can do for your faith is to learn to abide in God’s presence. His presence is what changes you to see, hear, and think clearly.
In 2 Kings 6, you read about the prophet Elisha. He lived in a time where the enemy, in this case the country Aram, was in constant battle with Israel. As war waged between the two, God would tell Elisha about Aram’s plans to attack and Elisha would warn the king of Israel and the king of Aram’s plans were always thwarted. This angered him. He wanted Elisha seized to stop his interference. He sent his army to surround where Elisha was staying.
One morning, one of Elisha’s servants went outside, he noticed that an army had surrounded them. This frazzled the young lad. The enemy was at their front steps! Take note of Elisha’s response in verse 16. This verse is for you and I today as we are surrounded with so much uncertainty.
“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”
This is absolute truth. God has always been in control, even back in biblical days where He never relinquished control over to the enemy, and He never will! Jesus’ resurrection gave Satan and his posse the death blow. The enemy is defeated! He is allowed for a time to strut his stuff and make you think he’s in charge but he is not! Jesus is returning soon to put a final end to Satan.
Elisha had eyes to see God. He prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened and God answered. When the servant could see, he saw the spiritual side that goes beyond human sight. All along the hillside that surrounded them, there was horses and chariots of fire ready to take down the enemy! Without God, the young lad only saw what his human eyes could see. But with God, he witnessed the fierce battle in the spiritual world that continues even today. God is battling for every sinful man to come and receive his salvation in Christ.
Have no fear, God is here for He is in control!
What do you think the young servant thought about God after that? Have you experienced a time where you were frazzled, fearful, weary perhaps, and when you took it to God and prayed, He revealed Himself to you? He showed you things through His Word and His creation that helped you to see and understand that He is with you. And the revelations He shows you helps you to trust Him all the more.
Hopefully this story deepens your faith and ignites a desire for you to continue maturing in your walk with God. And as you become more and more acquainted with your Savior and Lord Jesus, God will help you to see more clearly what is really around you. He will guide you in the darkness as He battles the enemy for you. He will get you home safely with Him one day. Know with certainty that God has your back!

Read the rest of 2 Kings 6 and see how the Lord guided Elisha to lead the enemy to a place where God could show a wayward country what peace looked like. May you let the Lord guide you to Himself. Before you can lead others, you first must let God break you of your own sinful ways and allow Him to show you what life is really about as He changes you into His likeness.
