Even during uncertain, turbulent times, good can be seen. A ray of hope, as some like to call it, can become visible when you look for it. As you celebrate with family and friends or if you like to be quiet, this Thanksgiving look for the good. It is there. You might have to squint your eyes to see it, but know it is there.
God is good.
These days, everyone seems to be facing uncertain times. Illnesses seem to be on the rise more than ever before, death lurks around every corner, and bank accounts are taking big hits. Violence is happening on a daily basis while storms are increasing in strength and severity. Unless you are standing on solid ground, life will cast many shadows. These shadows will play tricks on you to deceive you and cause you to stumble and fall.

Before turkey day, spend some time learning how to stand on solid ground. As some point you may have been standing strong but for whatever reason, something has shaken you off your foundation. You live unfocused, and in this state it is hard to see the good. It is hard to be thankful for all the good that surrounds you.
Take it from Jesus in Matthew 16:13-20 when He spoke to His disciples. He taught them about faith that gives a secure footing on solid ground. Standing upon it helps in seeing the good that is around you.
The ability to see good begins deep within your heart. No one else’s heart, only yours. Every child of God must deal with this question, “Who do you say I am?”15 Jesus was helping His disciples to secure their faith. He knew all too well that apart from Him, they would lose their footing and fall into darkness; read John 15. They would struggle with seeing the good.
Peter responded, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.”16
Study Jesus’ response in verses 17-19. You will discover the good that is everywhere.
When your heart can respond the same way as Peter, you will be blessed.
God the Father will reveal truth to you.
You will stand on the Rock. It is your solid ground that darkness cannot take down.
You are a part of a Church, a family, a community.
God will give you the treasures of heaven. You will be able to walk confidently with God fully equipped for every good work that He has ordained over you.
May you see the goodness that is abounding all around you, and be thankful for it.
Happy Thanksgiving from my home to yours.
